My sixth and final charcoal drawing in college. We got to choose any style, I just stuck with what I thought I knew.

I used a picture for reference, but lost it long ago... This one didn't eve have a name.

This was done using the "Take-Away," technique. In which the canvas is first covered black with charcoal, then you use a kneaded eraser to make the highlights and mid-tones. The shadows are already on canvas.

This one took about 5 hours.

Thank you very much! Nothing too fancy for canvas, just 12" by 18" 64lb. Charcoal paper, by Starthmore. I use a variation of charcoal, mostly heavy/dark, as well as many kneaded erasers. Oh, and a shammy cloth! Mustn't forget the shammy cloth!

Well, I was only given one night to do it, I had 4 other homework assignments to do that week, and it was all around finals for that trimester... Looking back, I see many flaws, and areas I feel I cheated myself on... I hope with my future works I'm given the freedom to do things on my own time. I appreciate the comment, glad you like it!

...i know,sometimes when we relly have great "pressure",and have to accomplish things in a certain time,it is stunning,what we are able to do.
However,I think considering this all,it is a remarcable work.:worship:,and I think you are very "perfectionnist"to be so "self-critic",but,it is a good thing,and the only way for evolution.
Again,bravo,really!:iconbwavoplz::iconeufrosis:

That is some gorgeous light!
Really like how you've done the back, with all the details in the anatomy. The pose is pure beauty.
